President George W. Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear Mr. President,
Play ball! I heard you threw out the first pitch in St. Louis last night. They said on the news it was an inside strike. I don’t know how they knew it was a strike when there was no batter standing there.
Is that why the fans booed you--because you wouldn’t throw your pitch to a real batter? It wouldn’t have to be anybody good--maybe Condoleezza Rice or somebody. I just think if your going to throw a pitch, you should have a batter trying to hit it.
Maybe they booed you because they couldn’t get through the Secret Service barricade. But I guess that theory doesn’t work because the people who were booing you were in the stadium, not the thousands who were still outside waiting to get through security.
Maybe they booed you because you used to own the Texas Rangers and Cardinal fans don’t like the Texas Rangers. Or Texas. Maybe next time you should throw out the first pitch at “The Ballpark in Arlington,” Home of the Texas Rangers! I bet they wouldn’t boo you there! Except maybe the people who had to move so you could tear down their houses to build “The Ballpark.” Also, liberals from Austin. They might boo you. I met a guy at the Neighborhood Grocers’ Convention who said, “Hi, I’m Bill Walker. I’m from Texas, but I didn’t vote for him.” I asked him who he didn’t vote for, but he wouldn’t tell me. I think I figured it out and if I’m right, he’d probably boo you too.
Anyway, I was glad to hear they piped in applause over the PA system to drown out the boos. It’s un-American to boo Our President, especially when there’s a war going on! Right at the moment you were throwing that pitch, our brave servicemen and women were fighting and dying in Iraq, and I just think we should all Support Our Troops by cheering Our President when he throws out the first pitch! Especially in a “swing state!”
Forty more years!
