Dear Dr. Edell,
I have a problem and I hope you will keep this strictly confidential. First, I want to say that I am a Patriot. I hang my flag in front of my house every day. I stand by my country right or wrong. No one loves our president more than I do. I voted for him last time and I will again. I think he is a Great American Hero.
It’s hard to talk about this, but here it goes: A couple of weeks ago, I was watching the news and President Bush came on, and while he was talking, all of a sudden out of nowhere I yelled out, “A**HOLE!” My heart was racing and I was trembling--fortunately my wife was outside. I didn’t know what came over me.
I pretty much put it out of my mind til a couple days later when I was watching the news again and when they showed a picture of Bush, I yelled out, “C***SUCKER!” This time, my wife was in the kitchen and she called, “Did you say something, honey?”
Doctor, I don’t even use four-letter words (I know those are more than four letters, but they’re four-letter words anyway). Yesterday, my grandson Lester was watching the news with me (he loves our president, too), and when Bush came on, I screamed, “YOU F***ING IDIOT!” and then to cover up for myself, I went into a coughing fit that sounded like, “CHUCK-IOT! CHUCK-IOT! CHUCK-IOT!”
What should I do, Dr. Edell? Do you think I have Tourette’s Syndrome? I don’t dare watch the news when anybody is around, but it’s getting so bad that if someone even says George Bush, my whole body twitches and I have to bite my tongue really fast to stop from yelling, “A**HOLE!” I’m only telling you this because you’re a doctor. Please tell me there is a cure.
Sincerely,
Carl Estrada
