Donald H. Rumsfeld
Secretary of Defense
1000 Defense Pentagon
Washington, DC 20301-1000
My Dear Mr. Rumsfeld:
Well, you certainly have shocked and awed us. Now that you have successfully bludgeoned Iraq into submission, I feel at liberty to take you to task for your condescending remarks in reference to “Old Europe.”
I will remind you, dear sir, that “Old Europe” provides the foundation upon which our great nation is built. “Old Europe” has been our most trusted friend and ally for more than a century. “Old Europe” has produced some of the greatest thinkers in history: Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, da Vinci, Goethe, Galileo, and Einstein.
Which is not to minimize your own minor legacy in history. I am sure you will be remembered well as an individual most skilled in brinkmanship, belligerence, and in the art of using overwhelming technology and firepower to crush nations with relatively few resources of their own.
Good day to you, sir.
Virginia T. Kornpepper
